The Vineyards

The vineyards rise along the lower slopes of the Witzenberg mountains, shaped by the wind and the shifting light of the valley. Schist, shale and decomposed granite give structure, perfume and depth to Rhône varieties. Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Grenache are planted across twenty-eight hectares established between 2000 and 2007. A mix of bush vines, stok-per-pale and trellised plantings allows each site to be farmed according to its character. Red Angus cattle support soil health as part of an integrated farming approach. Cool mountain air, long sunlight hours and dry summers naturally limit vigour, with spring fed dams supplying clear mountain water when needed.

The wines

De Kleine Wijn produces award winning wines from distinguished parcels across the Cape winelands, along with fruit grown on the farm. The philosophy is guided by restraint and precision, allowing purity, balance and site expression to lead. The range reflects heritage vineyards, thoughtful sourcing and a gentle approach in the cellar.

The cellar

The gravity fed cellar is the heart of the farm. Everything is designed around a natural flow of wine, from fruit reception to barrel. Minimal pumping, careful sorting and gentle extraction protect texture and purity. Concrete eggs, French oak foudres and older barrels allow clarity, balance and vineyard character to shine.
